Paradigm Shift in the event space is the second edition of the team.i instagram live series. Through this series we aimed at providing a common platform for all those interested in understanding and contributing to the future of the Events and Entertainment Industry after this entire pandemic situation.
As we all know that the economy has been hit hard due to the pandemic and its effect can be felt strongly in various industries especially the Events and Entertainment Industry. Thus, through our live series we look to answer some key questions and queries of concern related to this dynamic industry that are being constantly asked by freshers, students and employees of this industry.
On a lovely Sunday evening, 14th of June at 6pm, we had Mr. Jacob Santhosh, founder director of Network 8, join Mr. Arvind, CEO of team.i on the 12th session of our Instagram live series “Paradigm Shift in the event space”.
Mr. Jacob has been in this industry for the past 20 years, and has climbed his way on top through sheer hard work and passion. In 2005, he and his partner founded Network 8 and since then they have done some amazing events, and in doing so have built a strong relationship with their huge lists of clients.
All this wouldn’t have been possible without the work ethics of Mr. Santosh, as he’s fondly called in the industry. For him work is passion, and he believes in the art of detailing and this principle translates into his company’s vision for event management because according to him “Event Management is all about detailing”.
Journey of Jacob Santosh and Network 8
The Journey of Mr. Jacob started off as a promoter “I started working as a promoter and that’s where I started my events and running campaigns”. During this time, he worked on several campaigns as he remembers some of them “ we worked on lots of other concerts and also for LUX”.
After satisfying his clients on a regular basis, he decided to work on his own along with his partner, and thus that’s how Network 8 events was born a couple of years later.
On being asked about how this 15 years long journey has been, he promptly replies “Its been more of a happy and satisfactory journey”.
As a team they have worked really hard towards ideas and providing more than what the clients expects and as he says in his own words “We were always looking for the clients requirements, what the clients needs and what the client expects the most and that’s how it has been.
“This has made our clients happy”. As Mr. Jacob rightfully claims, Network 8 is viewed by their clients as a firm that has a different thinking towards managing events.
He then talks about his team that have been quite illustrious in this journey of 15 years. “Many have gone in and out of the company, but what we look at is the family in the team” as he talks about his team very proudly, and quite rightfully so!
What triggered you guys to start an event company?
“I think we had no choice we just came in this” he chuckles as he says this. According to him they initially travelled a lot, and they loved going around and observing different things. But what attracted him the most is about the nature of this industry, as he says “you are always on your toes, you always look ahead, looking forward because your mind is continuously working and is visualising something every time, and this is what kept us going on and we just liked doing it”. The other thing that attracted him was the glamour factor of this industry.
What are the challenges faced by an event management firm like yours during this quarantine period?
According to Mr. Jacob, quarantine firstly helped him spend some quality time at home with his family, and secondly retrospect about his company.
The lockdown period has been about learning and, as he puts down in his own words, “to see what we could do and see how we can keep the team together and see how we can motivate them”.
At Network 8, they have been conducting discussions about what they, as a team, are doing currently, and what can be done in future and how to work on the upskills of the team members. On being asked about his view about this pandemic he claims “We all are facing the same situation, but while being on different boats.
But I am sure soon everything will get back to normalcy”. According to him, event management will come back with a bang post Covid-19.
Have you done any digital events?
Network 8 has conducted so far 2 digital events during this lockdown. One of them was for their clients, which was like an award event which went quite successful.
The clients were very happy because their parents were at home while they were receiving the award, and this allowed them to introduce their parents on the screen, since this is something that is not possible in normal events.
“That was a good thing but at last what we need is touch and feel which is definitely required” feels Mr. Jacob about the entire nature of virtual events.
Would you prefer doing Wedding events or corporate events ?
According to Mr. Jacob, one of the learnings he’s got is that their firm can actually give a good shot at conducting weddings. “you know sometimes we say we are not made for weddings but, we can actually do that for sure we can definitely do that and I have seen people who have worked through out in the cooperates and are now doing wedding events more than corporate events” says Mr. Jacob as he feels pretty confident about his firm entering into the wedding business.
But to answer the original question, he would choose corporate events over wedding events only because “we are used to it, its not simple but its easy for us to do, everything is clear and you deal with one set of people but in weddings it’s different, you just need to learn”.
It was great catching up with Mr. Jacob Santosh, who was kind enough to join and share his experience about this dynamic industry.
